Treat Tinnitus with Acupuncture

Tinnitus is defined as conscientious perception of a sound originating in the ears or nervous system. The sounds are most often described as ringing but can also be clicking, buzzing or whistling. The sound can be continuous, pulsing or intermittent. Tinnitus can greatly interfere the with normal activities of everyday life. Often it can become worse in the evening or at night and can have detrimental affect on the ability to sleep.

There are a number of potential causes for tinnitus including ear infections, degenerative auditory nerve, neurological problems, meniere’s disease and sensorineural hearing loss.

Acupuncture and herbs are effective traditional Chinese medicine treatments for tinnitus. In TCM hearing and the ears are governed by the kidney/ bladder channels. These channels run throughout the body and enable the flow of energy (Qi) through the system. Weakness in the kidney or  liver channel can have a disrupting effect on hearing. The use of Acupuncture is based on the stimulation with needles of specific points on the body to manipulate the flow of energy to re-balance the system.
